Delivery Day: August 6, 2007

On Monday, Tom and I welcomed two new angels to the world: Elizabeth Ann Powell and Thomas Herbert Powell, III. The twins were delivered immediately after lunch, only one minute apart. Looking back, the entire pregnancy has been such a great experience in so many ways: milkshakes everyday, strangers commenting on “how great you look”, friends and family brining food and always someone calling to lend an extra hand. While pregnancy was pleasantly memorable, delivery was slightly different. The moments following delivery were a bit challenging – everyone had a few issues, but we have all made improvements. I am happy to report that Elizabeth is doing great, she is eating like a heavy-weight champ and Tom has changed the diapers to prove it. She is amazingly strong and charming all the doctors by her spunky little attitude. She definitely loves to be kept warm and swaddled tight….and just like mom, she is not a fan of cold temperatures! My little Tom is getting the attention of all the ladies in the NICU and keeping them entertained and busy. Even though white, male babies are considered the weakest, our Tom is a fighter. He is still undergoing quite a bit of testing, just to ensure his problems are due to his small size. More testing is scheduled for tomorrow and I hope to have additional news to report later this week. We appreciate all the prayers, flowers, cards, phone calls, balloons and emails – you have been so supportive and that gives us the strength to tackle each battle we face. We ask that you continue to send prayers, especially for my little man. Pray that his brain activity, his heart and all his organs function properly; pray for him to gain weight; pray for him to smile and pray for him to cry and pray that mom and dad can hold him in their arms very soon.

Congratulations Tom and Christina!!! I am so happy the twins have arrived. I love their names...of course I am biased to Elizabeth (it's a great name!). I will be praying for sweet little Tom. Please keep us updated on everything and put some pics up soon!!!
